چکیده

conclusions the present investigation supports the use of the methanolic extract of a. maurorum as an antiviral drug in folk and modern medicine. this activity may justify its use as a source of natural compounds to control fmdv in infected animals. background foot and mouth disease (fmd) is an infectious disease of cloven-hoofed animals that has adverse economic impacts. given the prevalence of this viral infection, the lack of effective treatments, and the presence of resistant strains, the progression of novel antiviral agents is needed. results the mtt assay revealed that methanolic extract in a concentration of 3 mg/ml or less has no cytotoxic impact, and the 50% cell cytotoxicity (cc50) was about 30 μg/ml. the reed & muench method showed that a. maurorum medik has anti-fmdv activity and it can reduce the titer of the virus by at least 2 × 3.5 log. materials and methods extraction of a. maurorum medik was carried out in an 80% methanol solvent system. the maximum concentration of the extract with non-cytotoxic effects on cells was determined using an mtt (3-[4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide)-assay. then, this concentration was incubated with ten-fold serial dilutions of the virus. the antiviral activity of the tested compounds was evaluated by measuring the reduction in cpes and calculating and comparing the tcid50, before and after treatment with the extract, via the reed & muench method. objectives the purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-fmdv activity of the methanolic extract of alhagi maurorum medik (camel thorn), via cell cultures. this study was done to evaluate the biologically active substances in extract of camel thorn and their applications in herbal and traditional medicine.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a major infectious disease of cloven-hoofed animals that is caused by the FMD virus (FMDV). This disease has significantly adverse economic impacts; therefore, rapid control measures are urgently. Traditional ranchers in Iran use Alhagi maurorum Medik. to treat FMD; therefore, we aimed to examine the antiviral activity of methanolic, ethanolic, and aqueous-acetic...

Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) vaccines

Foot-and-mouth is a disease of global socioeconomic importance, with vaccination the principle tool for control in endemic countries. Improvements in vaccines require advances in our understanding of the host immune response, one aspect of which the study group is asked to consider. Major problems limit the capacity of FMDV vaccines to control infections in developing countries. The virus is no...

The transient expression of coat protein of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) in spinach (Spinacia oleracea) using Agroinfiltration

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a very dangerous livestock disease which causes a serious loss in the production of milk and meat. Therefore, producing an effective recombinant subunit vaccine virus this disease is of great importance. Transient gene expression is a valuable tool to reach rapid and acceptable recombinant vaccine. An Agrobacterium-mediated transient gene expression assay was car...

Transient Expression of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) Coat Protein in Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacom) via Agroinfiltration

Background: Transient and stable transformation of host plants are the common techniques to produce transgenic plants. However, the main drawback of stable transformation is the fact that it takes quite a long time to produce a transgenic line. While, transient gene expression is a quick method to produce recombinant proteins in plants.  Objective: The main goal of the present study was to eva...
